Winding roads, undulating grass fields, forest trails, farm villages, fortified churches, small castles and the mix of at least three distinct cultures and languages are some of the many things you can see and experience when joining us on this tour.

In addition, we will visit a few local culinary places of interest during the days and taste the many interesting flavours on offer.

The tour is well suited for those who are keen on taking their gravel bike on a versatile adventure!

The routes offer some great riding specifically tailored for this category of bikes. We combine various types of surfaces such as gravel, dirt, grass fields, flowing forest trails and asphalt to ensure a rich experience.

As a general guideline we expect you to be a reasonably fit cyclist with the ability to manage a few long/steep climbs throughout the day and be on the bike for around 4 hours of active riding in average per day.

We generally stop for a one-hour lunch break around midday each day to rest the legs and replenish some energy.

As always, we will continuously gauge the ability and status of the group along the way and adjust things accordingly to ensure you all have a great time!

General riding info

We have chosen not to describe our rides in detail with information such as specific routes, distances, elevations, technical difficulty levels etc. There are many factors at play when heading into the Transylvanian nature to cycle and based on the conditions on the day we will choose the most suitable area and route. Our main goal is to ensure that you have an awesome time with us. Therefore, we might make various adjustments to the tour along the way to manage relevant risks effectively and provide you with the best experience possible.

In general, we don’t ride the same route twice during the tour. In other words, we always do our very best to ensure that you get to see and experience new places and scenery each day.

Our gravel/CX bike rides offer a great variety with a mix of gravel, dirt, flowing forest trails, grass fields and winding asphalt roads. We include the sealed roads mainly to connect one riding area with another, and also to access the various locations/sights that we would like to show you. However, the scenery along these winding roads is often beautiful, so we have a feeling you won’t mind… 😉

We want to be honest about the fact that silky smooth gravel roads that go on forever and ever are far and few between in Transylvania. The roads can be quite rough at times, so if you have the 650B’s with chunkier tires just sitting there, don’t hesitate to bring them. In saying that, we ride with 700C’s with 38-40mm tyres and think they work just fine.

The terrain around these parts is generally very undulating and we’re not going to lie, there is quite a bit of climbing involved. However, we believe the rewards easily outweigh the momentary struggles, with amazing views and exhilarating descents. We can almost guarantee that you will be left with great memories, better endurance and stronger legs 🙂! There will be plenty of opportunities for those who want to push themselves beyond the general pace of the group. There will also be suitable options for those who want to take it a bit easy on the day, for whatever reason.

We have a maximum number of 8 participants per group on our standard tours, excluding the guide/guides. This is due to both safety and logistical reasons, as well as to the general dynamic and nature of off-road group cycling. If you are a group of more than 8 people, please contact us to discuss the organising of a private tour.
